Grand Island DECA is hosting a school supply drive to support the members of our community who have been impacted greatly by COVID-19. If you are already out shopping for your child’s supplies, pick up a few extra items to help. These supplies will be donated to any student in our district and DECA students will drop off at each of the primary schools for distribution, making sure every student on Grand Island has all the materials they need to start the school year! We are excited to announce that there is a drop off bin located at our store to easily facilitate this collection.
This event is especially needed if a student’s family has been impacted by the pandemic. We will also be accepting new or gently used backpacks filled with the following supplies: colored folders, notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, and highlighters just as suggestions.
Additionally, specific materials for each grade level can be found on the Grand Island Central School District Website. If you cannot get to our drop off location for any reason simply message us and we will contact one of the DECA students to pick up your supplies, social distancing of course. The drive is on now through September 1st, 2020.
This idea was formed as Megan, Riley, and Bethany became Grand Island DECA officers, who said,
“We wanted to make sure that DECA was extremely involved in our community this year due to this unprecedented time and that is when our community needs each other the most. With school on everyone’s mind, we worried that some families may have trouble with purchasing school supplies due to layoffs, decreased business, or any other difficult situations that have come about because of the COVID-19 crisis. We want every student to have an amazing school year, so why not start with school supplies?”
